Total area of specially protected natural territories RB makes 1045952,22 thousands hectares or 7,3% of the Republican square. As it is known, specially protected natural territories are the main nests for preservation of landscape and biological variety.

Three natural reserves are located on the territory of the Republican („BASHKIRSKY“, „SHULGAN-TASH“ and „South-Ural“), the national park „Bashkiria“, three natural parks („ASLY-KUL“, „KANDRY-KUL“ and „MURADYMOVSKOE Canyon), 29 state natural reserves, including 15 zoological, 178 monuments of nature, 7 districts of mountainous-sanitary protection of medicinal-recovery areas and resorts and one landscape natural park of local destination „ZILIM“.

The reserves and the national park, being specially protected natural territories of federal subordination, are found under jurisdiction of Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage.

Natural parks, reserves, monuments of nature, medicinal-recovery areas and resorts, being specially protected natural territories of local subordination, are the property of Russian regions and are found under jurisdiction of regional state boards.

Beginning from 2002 Republic of Bashkortostan conducts the actions on forming the system of specially protected natural territories. This is the complex of mutually interconnected territories, which is designed taking natural, social-cultural and national peculiarities of the Republic into consideration.

Within this complex the reserve „SHAITAN-TAU“, eight natural parks („AGIDEL“, „IREMEL“, „IRENDYK“, „KRYKTY“, „PAVLOVKA“, „URUZAN“, „INZER“, „ZILIM“), 50 reserves and plenty of monuments of nature are planned to be established. After establishing the designed natural territories their area will make 3,7 millions hectares or 25,8% of the total square RB and it will help to preserve landscape and biological variety of our region.

In 2006 the actions on the sub-program „The support of specially protected natural territories“ have been financed within the frames of the Republican target program „Ecology and natural resources RB (2004-2010)“ in the sum of 1300 thousands rubles. 500 thousands rubles have been allocated for „Preservation of rare and disappearing species of animals and plants“. 3,5 millions rubles planned to spend for support of the natural territories and 950 thousands rubles – for preservation of rare and disappearing species of plants and animals in 2007.

Specially protected natural territories of Republic of Bashkortostan, natural ecological systems, connected with these territories and their biological variety represent the invaluable natural heritage of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation and the whole world, the irreplaceable source of mineral resources and a necessary condition for maintaining favorable environment. Specially protected natural territories play great role in provision of ecological safety in the Republic.
