National emblem, State flag and National anthem are the symbols, expressing the state system    of Bashkortostan Republic, status of the subject of Russian Federation, originality and traditions of people of the republic.

To the beginning of 90s of the last century, the republic had   soviet symbolism, in a great deal similar with national. The new status of the republic, proclaimed by the Declaration about state sovereignty of Bashkortostan Republic, defined the necessity of acceptance of its new official attributes  the State flag, emblem, and anthem. On February 25, 1992, the Supreme Soviet of the republic confirmed a new flag. In memory about this historical event, February 25 in Bashkortostan is celebrated as the Day of the State flag of Bashkortostan Republic.

On November 26, 1990, the Cabinet of Bashkortostan Republic accepted a decision No. 211 «About holding a competition on the best project of the flag, state emblem and hymn of Republic Bashkortostan». Creative unions, professional artists, composers, teachers, students of universities, state and public figures of Bashkortostan, took part in the competition. During its conducting about 40 projects of state attributes were sent to the commission. After working out the totals of the competition on February 25, 1992, the Supreme Soviet of Bashkortostan Republics confirmed the new State flag of the republic. The authors of the accepted project were artists: Ural Masalimov and Olga Asabina.

The state flag is a rectangular three-color width, consisting of stripes: upper  dark blue color, middle  white color, lower  green color. At the same time, innovations, better reflecting modern state of the republic are introduced. In the center of the white stripe a gold emblem is painted  a circle, in which a formalized flower of saltwort, consisting of seven petals. The white color in the new flag is located between dark blue and green colours. In the State flag of Bashkortostan Republic a dark blue color today means a clarity, goodwill and cleanness of thoughts of people of the republic; white is their peaceful nature, openness, readiness to mutual cooperation; green  freedom, eternity of life. The present State flag of Bashkortostan Republic in the best way possible reflects keeping the best traditions of the past, specific character of our land, joining of Bashkortostan to Russia and determines the prospects of its development.

For the past years, the State flag of Bashkortostan became the inalienable and usual attribute of state and public life of republic. It is known and outside of Bashkortostan - it flutters above buildings of representative offices of our republic in the different regions of the country, accompanies our official delegations in near and distant abroad. The National emblem and National anthem were ratified later  on October 12, 1993.

The development of the National emblem of the republic proceeded more than one and half year. In all 40 projects of emblems were presented on the competition. On October 12, 1993, the Supreme Soviet accepted a law on the National emblem of Bashkortostan Republic. The artist of publishing house «Kitap» Fazletdin Islakhov developed the project, ratified by the parliament of our republic.

The National Emblem of Bashkortostan Republic is an image of monument to Salavat Yulaev on a background of the ascending sun, entered in a circle, framed with national decorative pattern. Below there are depicted inflorescence of kuray and ribbon, painted in the colors of the State flag of Bashkortostan Republic, with inscription on the white ground «Bashkortostan». In the colored image of the National Emblem of Bashkortostan, the monument to Salavat Yulaev and decorative pattern  are gold, flower of kuray  is green, the ascending sun  light-gold color, rays of the sun  yellow, background between the monument and decorative pattern  is white, internal and outward circumferences  are dark-gold color.

On the same day  October 12, the law was enacted about the National Anthem of republic. The national anthem of Bashkortostan is a solemn melody «Republic» by Farit Idrisov.
