Agro-industrial sector

Bashkortostan is the largest agricultural region of Russia. It is among three leaders of the country on to many positions. So, on gross agricultural production Bashkortostan occupies the second place in the country. The republic is in the lead on the total number of livestock, production of milk, kumys and honey. On the production of potato, meat of cattle and bird Bashkortostan takes the second place, the fourth  on the total number of livestock of pigs, the fifth  on the production of eggs, total number of sheep and goats livestock.

These indexes are bright evidence that our republic chose right direction of reorganizations in the agrarian sector. In Bashkortostan, not only collective economies remained but also farmer and personal subsidiary economies got active development. In the republic 567 thousand families have personal subsidiary economies, 4799 peasant farmer economies and individual businessmen develop actively.

The course taken by our republic on priority development of agro industrial complex, scientific approaches in agriculture, introduction of resources saving technologies fully justifies itself. The numerous examples of successful economies show evidently, what in a present economic situation, at the most not favourable climatic conditions, it is possible to work effectively and get an excellent harvest.

Being in the area of risky agriculture, our republic makes about five percent of all gross agricultural output of Russia.   In 2006, for example, on collection of corn cultures workers got past the point of 4,5 million tons of corn. Actually our republic went at the optimum level  - one ton of corn per one habitant.

The production of sugar beet increases from year to year. So, in 2006 on the storing up of sugar beet Bashkortostan made almost two million tons  this record index was got for the first time.

On the fields of our republic annually, it is grown and collected good harvest of sunflower, potato, vegetables. By a word, the population of the republic is fully provided with basic foodstuffs  bread, potato, vegetables, vegetable butter.

Traditionally large attention in Bashkortostan is paid to the questions of cattle breeding. Today in the republic, there are more than one million 700 thousand heads of cattle. It is about ten percent from the total number of livestock of entire country. In addition, there are 560 thousand pigs, more than 880 thousand sheep and goats, almost 153 thousand horses, about 18 million heads of birds. Milk yields and average daily weight increments, animal yield, egg-laying qualities of hens, collecting of high-quality honey, catch of fish are increased from year to year.

Undoubtedly, such high indexes would be impossible without strengthening of technical base of agro industrial complex. Creation of the republican machine-technological stations allowed, foremost, deciding the problem of mechanization of the most labour intensive operations  harvesting corn and leguminous plants, sugar beet. The analogues of such modern stations in our country so far are not present.

Successes of the republic are considerable and in such major link of economy, as food and processing industry. Bashkortostan on the rates of its development is a leading region in the Volga federal district. This industry is presented with more than two thousand enterprises. From them about 200  are large and middle, more than 400  are small, more than one and a half thousand  are subsidiary productions. To the share of fast-developing enterprises of meat and dairy industry about 40 percent of all production volume fell.

The volume of gross agriculture production is increased from year to year. If in 2005 it made 62 billion rubles, in 2006  it reached almost 75 billion rubles. On this index, Bashkortostan is included in the first five regions of Russian Federation. Along with other regions, Bashkortostan actively joined in implementation of national project on agro industrial complex within the framework of which it is conducted building (12) and reconstruction of six cattle-breeding objects on a total sum for more than eight billion rubles.

Large work is conducted and in other important direction. It is development of the personal subsidiary economies and farmer economies, agricultural consumer cooperative farms.

An enormous value is given in Bashkortostan to the building of habitation in villages. It allows to provide agro industrial complex with personnel, to attract young specialists to the industry, and, partly, to decide a demographic problem. In 2006, for example, more than 38 thousand square meters of habitation were built in rural area.
