Minerals

About 3000 deposits of different minerals are discovered in Bashkortostan and big towns have grown up near copper-pyrite deposits, discovered by geologists: Sibay, Utchaly and Baimak. Metallurgical industry actively develops in Beloretsk, iron ores from the deposits of ZIGAZINO-KOMAROVSKAYA group serve as a raw material for.

The territory of Bashkortostan is characterized by large set of different minerals: oil, natural gas, stone coal, peat; the ores, containing copper, zinc, iron, manganese, aluminum, gold and accompanying rare elements; non-metallic minerals, such as rock salt, fluor-spar, limestone, barite, sulfur and others, phosphorous-containing ores, building materials (gypsum, crushed stone), facing and semi-precious stones, optic raw material.

More than 200 deposits of oil and gas has been discovered in Bashkortostan and ARLANSKOE, SHKAPOVSKOE, TUIMAZINSKOE, SERAPHIMOVSKOE, MABCHAROVSKOE and SERGEEVSKOR deposits are the biggest. The oil is different in density (0,84-o,93g/cubic cm) and in sulfur content (3-5%). The maximum of oil mining has fallen on 1950-60s, when up to 55 millions tons of oil was mined. Today our Republic mines more than 11 millions tons of oil and 360 millions cubic meters of gas per year.

Bashkortostan’s entrails are rich in mineral resources stocks and development of Bashkir industry is closely connected with mastering its minerals. Fuel, chemical and oil-chemical branches, machine-building and metal working, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy work on own supplies of minerals, giving up to two thirds of industrial production in Bashkortostan.

Copper-pyrite deposits make the foundation of raw material base for non-ferrous metallurgy RB. 16 deposits have been explored on the territory and four deposits are considered the biggest in Ural zone. The supplies of copper and zinc in these deposits make 30 and 48% correspondingly from all Ural deposits of these metals. The supplies of gold in these deposits make hundreds tons. Copper-pyrite ores are integrated in its staff with presence of copper, zinc, sulfur, lead, gold, silver, cadmium, selenium, tellurium, indium, gallium, germanium and other metals. 8 deposits are found under exploitation. Ores are processed at three concentrators with total designing capacity 6,2 millions tons of ores per year.

Production of building materials in the Republic is fully supplied with own investigated reserves of brick and haydite clays, sand-crushed stone mixture, building stone and sand, gypsum and carbonate rocks for production of lime. A certain part of crushed stone and sand is exported.

There are 170 deposits of brick clay and 12 deposits of haydite clay. Gypsum is mined in 13 places and limestone – in 31. All deposits are located along the banks of several Bashkir rivers and these minerals are highly demanded in road-building.

More than 50 springs of mineral waters, medicinal mud and thermal vapor are discovered in Bashkortostan and famous Bashkir sanatoriums work on the base of these springs (YANGAN-TAU, KRASNOUSOLSK, ASSY and others).

In Beloretsky and Utchalinsky region RB there are many deposits of decorative jasper, gabbro, dolerite, stromatolite limestone, agate, serpentine and marble. The richest palette of local minerals and rocks is demonstrated at stone-cutting art studios RB today and several pieces of stone art are demonstrated in the Museum of geology and minerals RB.

The expanded list of minerals, suitable geographic position and well-developed infrastructure make Bashkortostan rather attractive both for home and foreign investments in mining industry RB.
