The higher representative and single legislative body of Bashkortostan Republic is State   Assembly  Kurultay of Bashkortostan Republic. In accordance with constitution RB it is an one chamber legislative body. 120 deputies are elected in it on single member constituencies for a term of five years.

Heretofore the republican parliament was two camber with the term of office for four years. Absence of the second chamber simplifies passing laws, gives a legislative process large efficiency and dynamics. But simultaneously it lays a large responsibility on deputies.

Passing to the one chamber legislative body was objectively conditioned by the attained level of development   of the state system, stabilizing of economic and political situation in the republic. Deciding the problem of choice of optimum    model of republican parliament, they based on existent political realities, historical traditions.

Presidium of State Assembly, accountable to parliament was created to provide the State   Assembly activity. The Chairman of State Assembly, Vice-Chairman, Chairmen of permanent Committees of State Assembly are included in it.

It should be noted that the formation of control-account chamber of Bashkortostan Republic is under the jurisdiction of State Assembly, composition, way of activity and plenary powers of which are determined by the law of Bashkortostan Republic.

The State Assembly of Bashkortostan Republic became a part of political life and legislative space not only of  Bashkortostan but also Russia as a whole. The State Assembly  Kurultay of Bashkortostan Republic as an institute of authority and as parliament of subject of Russian Federation now is on the stage of further development.

The Parliament of Bashkortostan exists within the framework of presidential republic. It produced quite integral system of mutual relationships with the President, with executive and judicial power.

The basic part of lawmaking work of deputies of the State Assembly passes in permanent Committees of the republican parliament. There are only seven of them. It is Committee on a legislation,   state building and juridical-lawful questions; Committee on questions of local self-government, matters of nationalities, public and religious associations, information policy; Committee on budget, taxes, finances and questions of property; Committee on industry, building, transport, communications, energy and business undertakings; Committee on agrarian questions, natural resources, nature management and ecology; Committee on education, to science, culture, sport, tourism and for young people affairs; Committee on labour, social questions, family, maternity, childhood and health care.

Members of parliament of our republic do not only develop and complement the legal base of the country but also frequently set an example of bold and competent law making. And some republican acts become the standards of model legislation, that the list of laws of Bashkortostan Republic, so far not having analogues in the Federal legislation testifies to: «About couteraction against corruption», «About food safety of Bashkortostan Republic », «About drinking-water»; «About the vegetable world», «About ecological monitoring»; «About domestic animals», «About minimum social norms», «About honour protection of the President of Bashkortostan Republic».

The republic is a leader in the area of development and passing of laws on social defense of population. In Bashkortostan one of the first in Russian Federation laws are accepted about veterans of war, labour and Military Powers, about social defense of invalids, about an additional guarantee on social defense of children-orphans, remained without care of parents, about social service of population and others. The law «About veterans of war, labour and Military Powers» was passed before the Federal law «On veterans». This law provides for the measures of social defense of veterans which take into account their interests and necessities wider, than in the Federal law.

In addition, the following laws which are absent at the federal level function in RB: «About family, maternity, paternity and childhood protection», «About protecting of population from tuberculosis», "About organization of guardianship and patronage in Bashkortostan Republic".

The Law RB «About the national-cultural associations of citizens in Bashkortostan Republic» is directed on protecting and development of culture of people, inhabiting the republic;  interests of workers of creative professions are reflected by the Law «About creative workers and creative unions in Bashkortostan Republic». The Code of Bashkortostan Republic "About the health protection of citizens " was accepted.

Thus, it is a question of creation of the independent system of republican legislation, which is properly correlated with the system of federal legislation.
