Murtaza Gubaidullovich Rakhimov was born on February, 7, 1934 in Tavakanovo village, Kugarchinskiy region, Bashkiria. He is Bashkir. He graduated from Ufa Oil Institute and has a higher education. (1964)
After graduating from Ufa Oil College in 1956 he began his labour activity as an operator at the Ufa Oil-refining plant. From 1960 till 1976 he worked at the Ufa Oil-refining plant by the name of XXII congress of C.P.S.U. as a supervisor of the unit, deputy shop superintendent, deputy chief of production, deputy chief engineer on putting into operation and debugging of new productions.
From 1976 till 1978 he worked as a chief chemist deputy chief engineer, from 1978 till 1986 – as a chief engineer and from 1986 till 1990 – a director of the plant.
M.G. Rakhimov was elected as a people’s deputy of USSR and a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, a people’s deputy of Bashkortostan Republic and Ufa City Council of people’s deputies.
From 1990 till 1993 Murtaza Rakhimov – is the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Bashkortostan Republic.
On December, 1993, Murtaza Rakhimov was nationally elected as the first President of Bashkortostan Republic.
On June, 14, 1998, he was reelected to a post of the President of Bashkortostan Republic for a second term.
On December, 21, 2003 in accordance with the Federal law „About main guarantees of electoral rights and rights on participation in referendum of citizens of the Russian Federation“ M.G. Rakhimov was elected as the President of Bashkortostan Republic for the third time. M.G. Rakhimov – is a member of the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (1993-2001). At present he is a member of the Council of State of the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the Council of Bashkortostan Republic and the Presidential Council of Bashkortostan Republic, the Chairman of the interdepartmental Council of the public security of Bashkortostan Republic.
During his work as the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Bashkortostan Republic the Declaration about the state sovereignty of Bashkortostan Republic (October,11, 1990) was adopted, the Federal Agreement and the Addendum to the Federal Agreement from Bashkortostan Republic (May, 31, 1992), the new Constitution of Bashkortostan Republic (December, 24, 1993) were signed. In the course of his first presidential term the Treaty of the Russian Federation and Bashkortostan Republic about separation of competence and mutual delegation of powers between bodies of state authority of the Russian Federation and bodies of state authority of Bashkortostan Republic (August, 3, 1994) was signed.
M.G. Rakhimov is awarded with the Order of Honour (1980), the Order of the Labour Red Banner (1986), Friendship of people (1994), „For merits before Fatherland“ of II degree (1999), the Order of sacred Pious tsarevitch Moscow Dimitriy and Uglich wonder-worker (1999), „For merits before Republic Bashkortostan“ (2000), „For the benefit of Fatherland“ by the name of V.N.Tatishchev (the Russian academy of natural sciences) (2002), of Peter the Great (public fund „The best managers of an epoch“) (2002), of Salavat Yulaev (2004). Moreover in 1996, 1999 and 2004 M.G.Rahimov was thanked officially on behalf of the President of RF. He was awarded to the Certificate of Honour of the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (2001), the Certificate of Honour of the Government RF (2002), the premium „Russian National Olympus“ in the nomination „President 2002-2003“, the Honourable national sign „the Leader of the Russian economy“ (2004). He is conferred the honorary ranks of „the Deserved rationalizer of RSFSR“ (1974) and „the Deserved oilman of Bashkiria“ (1977).
He is fond of music, fiction, actively engaged in physical training.
